Editorial: Impeached
Members of Congress and Senators are working for you. Remind them, especially this week, of their mandate and remind them of the oath they swore to protect the Constitution from enemies, foreign and domestic. So help them God.
On the eve of the House voting to impeach Donald J. Trump, we can fully expect a trial to begin in the Senate early next year. Senators then have to swear a separate oath as jurors in the impeachment trial:
“I solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald J. Trump, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: So help me God.” That is the oath and we all will be watching if they indeed remain impartial.
We citizens expect to see the behavior of an independent Congress and Senators who look at the evidence before them and then judge accordingly. —D.H.—
