Clayton E. Michael Mixsooke

Clayton E. Michael Mixsooke

Sept. 21, 1986 – July 2024

Clayton E. Michael Mixsooke was born to Reuben and Sharon Mixsooke on September 21, 1986 at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, AK. He passed away in the first week of July 2024, in his home in Unalakleet.

Clayton grew up in Unalakleet with his older siblings Janice, Max and Cameron, later welcoming his younger siblings Nilson, Shawn and Chaleen.

Clayton attended Unalakleet Schools from HeadStart to graduating high school, in 2005, with all of his classmates. He went on to attend UAA for a year, then AVTEC and Arizona IT Tech schools. He worked for a year at the AK Performing Arts Center before moving back home to be closer to his parents, helping them at home.

After moving home, he worked for NSEDC for a time and then moved over to Native Village of Unalakleet IT. Working for NVU gave him the opportunity to work with many people. He worked with students from Iowa and Michigan State Universities for various housing projects and later worked with the broadband techs where he learned to install the broadband equipment. He would get to know the visiting students or techs and take them fishing, boat rides up the main and north rivers, rides to the North River Bridge, picnics on the beach and inviting them to his mom’s for meals. He was eager to meet new people and learn new skills with his position at NVU.

Clayton loved to go fish or hunt moose, seals or birds — rain or shine. He learned to make smoked dry fish and strips. Fishing was definitely a favorite pastime with his cousins or friends. He taught himself to make any type of birds, fish, or moose into jerky.

Clayton also had a passion for music. He learned to play the drums and the guitar using Johnny Cash as a muse.

Clayton is survived by his mom Sharon; sisters Janice J (Jim), Janice M (Brandon) and Chaleen M; brothers Max, Nilson (Jillian), Shawn and Daniel; nieces Shylah, Faith, Candice, Crystal, Bridget and Julia; nephews Conner and Drew.

He is preceded in death by his dad Reuben; brother Cameron; grandparents Moses Mixsooke, Excelia Wilder, Nils Savetilik and Evelyn Rynearson; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rest in Peace my Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend.
