Michael “Mike” David Webber

Sept. 25, 1956 - May 10, 2024

Michael “Mike” David Webber, 67, of Solon, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics after a brief illness. His loss is unexpected, and his family is profoundly saddened.

Mike was born on September 25, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John Wilbert Webber and Colleen Frances (Hunt) Ferris.

Mike graduated from Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, IA in 1975. Mike was always very interested in sports. Although he could not participate due to having one kidney, he is remembered by many coaches and players as a great supporter on the sidelines and in the stands. Mike was always a loyal Hawkeye fan, no matter their record and rarely missed a football game, basketball game or wrestling match on TV or in person.

Mike moved to Alaska in 1976 and lived there until 2021 where he held careers as a fisherman, a hunting guide, and had many other interests. For many years, he trained and cared for sled dogs, with the goal to run the Iditarod. In 1996, he participated in and completed the Iditarod.

He was very fond of Alaska and called it his home for most of his adult life.

He was recently retired and had moved back to Iowa to spend his retirement with family. He is remembered by his friends and family as a warm, friendly, loyal and fun person who would do just about anything for people. He made friends and acquaintances everywhere he went. He was a lover of nature and outdoor activities and all animals, especially the wonderful dogs in his life, Soubi, Kaiser and Ellie Mae.

Mike is survived by his sisters Sandra (Webber) Wright, Waterloo, IA and Sue (Webber) Schuck Ashburn, VA; niece Kimberly (Wilson) Francis and her husband Michael Francis, Solon, IA, great nieces, Alexandra Williams, Marisa Francis and Allie Francis, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by mother Colleen Ferris, father John Webber, sister Vicki (Webber) Thaxton and niece Jennifer Woolsey.

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Donor Network.  www.iowadonornetwork.org

At Mike’s request, no funeral service will be held. Mike will be cremated, and his ashes will find their resting place in a location of significance to him.
