Lester ‘Buttah’ Bahr Sr.

September 28, 1938 ~ December 31, 2022

Lester Stuart Bahr Sr. was born on September 28, 1938 to Clement and Olga (Riley) Bahr.  He was the youngest of four children, joining his older brothers Henry and Irwin, and sister Ellen.  After the breakup of his parent’s marriage, he was raised by his dad Clement, with the help of his aunt, Mary Bahr.

Lester attended school in Unalakleet up until the 8th grade.  He struggled with hearing from a young age but was an avid reader and completed his education through his vast reading.  He then studied carpentry in Seattle and went to further technical school in Sacremento, CA.  He then worked in carpentry, driving and other jobs.

Lester met Onessia Nick in Bethel in 1970 while he was working there.  They were later married by Pastor E. at Aunt Mary’s house in Unalakleet.  Together they raised her children, and later welcomed their son, Lester Jr.

Lester loved to read, he also loved to visit people and share stories.  Lester was affectionately known as ‘Buttah’, he was always ready with a hardy greeting, a joke or a story. Although he had less than perfect hearing, he always seemed to know exactly what was going on in town, and all the juicy details.

Lester is survived by his wife Onessia; his son Lester Jr. and children, Anna, Lester III and Dolly; his daughters Balassa and Evelyn, sons Nick and Ron; sister-in-law, Eleanor Bahr; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Clement Bahr and Olga Bale; brothers Irwin and Henry; sister Ellen Bruno; aunt Mary Bahr, niece Aurora Mosley, and grandson Ben Milton.

Peace to his memory.
