Edward H. Walker (Buneek)
Edward H. Walker (Buneek), age 86, died in his home in Anchorage on February 8, 2021 of natural causes.
Buneek was born November 1, 1934 in White Mountain, Alaska to Mary and Edward Walker.
He attended school in White Mountain and Mt. Edgecumbe. In 1958 he attended school in Chicago and Waukegan to learn how to make fiberglass boats before moving back to Alaska in 1965. His father sponsored him in the Ironworkers Union and he began his career as an ironworker. His jobs took him to Point Barrow, Adak, Kodiak, Sitka, Juneau, Point Hope and welding communication towers for the Trans-Alaska pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. In Anchorage he worked on the Captain Cook twin towers plus many construction jobs around Seattle. He was a member of the Anchorage Ironworker Local 75 and the Northwest Ironworkers Local 86 and retired in 1980.
He loved to fish and hunt and told many exciting stories of his adventures commercial fishing, reindeer herding, dog mushing and vacationing in Hawaii and Mexico. He enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing and the Mariners and Seahawks.
He loved people; he made everyone feel special. He especially loved his nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews from Alaska to Florida. He loved Jesus and always reverently bowed his head for prayer before a meal.
Buneek was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Ed Walker, brothers Fred and Eli; and sisters MaryAnn and Isabelle. He is survived by his sister Laura Lagstrom.
A funeral service is scheduled for February 15, 2021 at Muldoon Community Assembly, 7041 DeBarr Road, Anchorage. Viewing is from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. Joel Brisson will be officiating.
His final resting place will be in White Mountain. A burial is planned for July 10, 2021.
