David “Tubby” Lee Lockwood

David “Tubby” Lee Lockwood

March 25, 1958 – July 4, 2016

David Lee (Tubby) Lockwood was born in Unalakleet, Alaska on March 25, 1958 to George and Helen Lockwood.  He was their biggest baby, weighing in over 10 pounds at birth.  Mom always told her daughters not to have big babies, as they were “hungry all the time!”

Tubby graduated from Nome Beltz High School in May of 1976.  He worked as a commercial fisherman here in the Norton Sound, and also the Lower Yukon, for the AC Co. in Nome as a stock clerk, and at BSSD as a janitor.  He obtained a welding certificate.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing.  He loved going subsistence hunting with Mom and her friends, and his brothers.

A humble man, Tubby was not into possessions or acquiring wealth.  He found riches and happiness in the simple things in life, and had an easy-going, happy attitude.  On one of his job applications, his remarks were “Can associate with society, and is willing and able to help anyone who needs it.  Always try to give good advice and respect others.  Always hold on to responsibilities.  Try anyway.”

Tubby is survived by his children, brothers Charles and Reginald, and sisters Mary (David Teachout) and Annie (George Woods). He was preceded in death by his son Kyle Lockwood, parents George and Helen Lockwood, brothers Gerald (Jerry), and Edward (Oppie), and sisters Lorena, Carol, June and Patty.  Peace to his memory.
