Ronald Dean Davis “Koonuk”

January 14, 1959-June 18, 2017

Ronald was born on January 14, 1959 to Beatrice Davis at Nome, Alaska. He went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2017. Ronald was the youngest of the family. He attended the Nome public school up to the 11th grade. Ronald moved to Shishmaref in 1989 to be near his family.

Ronald was employed by Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority as Journeyman Carpenter travelling to villages in the late 1990s with Delbert Obruk and Bobby Iyatunguk. He was an avid hunter until his health declined. Ronald really enjoyed the country and always made sure his family had an abundance of food for the winter months. He always made sure his family was well-fed. When his health declined he continued to provide for the family by making sure the boat had everything and made sure it was well maintained for the family to continue subsistence gathering. Ronald really enjoyed eating subsistence food gathered by his family, especially what the kids would gather for him, he enjoyed even more. He loved teaching his nephews how to hunt along with his brother Fred, that was his favorite pastime.

Ronald’s love for children was so special, he made special bonds with all of his nephews and nieces. He had nicknames for all of his nephews/ nieces and relations. Ronald was so kind to everyone he knew. He always encouraged his nephews and nieces to attend church. When is health was failing he was always so happy and appreciated all the prayers and concern for him. Ronald enjoyed everyone that came and visited with him and those who called him also.

Ronald especially enjoyed the time spent with his family, cousins and close friends. He loved all of them, he always made sure to check on Larry and Robbie every day. Those who know him, knew he had a sense of humor, always making people laugh. He especially enjoyed his daily visits from his relatives and friends. Ronald always thought of others who were sick or ill, even if he didn’t really know them. His kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by all who know him. Ronald had a strong faith in God.

Ronald is survived by his sister Stella and Kim Ningeulook, brothers Fred and David Davis, niece Pearl (Calvin), nephew Jonathan (Kristy), Logan and Ivan Nayokpuk, Elliot Olanna, Chloe, Spencer and Angela Obruk. Aunts Rena Kuzuguk and family, Nora Kuzuguk and family, Fanny Kuzuguk and family. He grew up as brother to Kevin and Tony Cabinboy.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Beatrice and Fred Davis, sisters Kiatcha Ervin and Ruthhannah Seetot, brothers Jonathan Davis and Douglas “Bobby” Davis, aunts Anna Scott and Hattie Ningeulook, uncles Earl Scott, Ray Ningeulook, Frankie Kuzuguk Sr. and Bert Kuzuguk.
