Honors: Vernae Angnaboogok
GRADUATE— Vernae Angnaboogok graduated from University of Alaska Fairbanks with a Bachelors in Rural Development, Tribal and Local Government Administration. She is from the Iñupiaq village of Wales, traditionally known as Kiŋigin (Kingigin). She was raised in Kiŋigin by both her mom “Birdi” and her grandparents, Roland and Edna Angnaboogok who instilled in her the values and passion for learning and embracing the Iñupiaq way of life, for which she holds a deep passion for researching, learning, and passing on to our people. Vernae was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Student of the Year for the UAF Rural Development Program. With sincere gratitude, she also acknowledge and thanks Kawerak Higher Education and Bering Straits Native Corporation for their generosity and support in lightening her financial burden throughout her years in college.
